UEL: a 21st century University
The University of East London is an exciting, diverse learning community. We aim to give our students an enthusiasm for new ideas, new knowledge and new learning, and the opportunities to excel in their chosen careers.
On these web pages you can find out about our wide range of degree programmes, our learning resources, and life as a student both on campus and in the wider world. We hope you will also gain an insight into our distinctive outlook and philosophy. At the heart of an area of London that is undergoing rapid and exciting change, UEL is a focal point for innovation and renewal. We have developed a new vision of what a university can be not only adapting to the future, but helping to shape it. We hope you'll like what you see and that it will encourage you to apply to UEL.
Our vision
At UEL, we have a clear vision, which underpins all that we do. We aim:
To achieve recognition, both nationally and internationally, as a successful and inclusive regional university, proud of our diversity, committed to new modes of learning which focus on students and enhance their employability, and renowned for our contribution to social, cultural and economic development, especially through our research and scholarship.
We are making that vision into reality, through the diversity of our student and staff population, our commitment to widening access to university education, and excellence in teaching and research.
Our values
We are student centred. We identify, anticipate and meet student needs to enable them to achieve their potential.
We are really useful. We are building a truly dynamic vocational university, one which prepares people for vocations and itself has a vocation.
We are challenging. We are ready to challenge orthodoxy and we foster a spirit of critical enquiry and innovation to achieve our goals.
We are inclusive. We strive to create a friendly, collaborative and trusting environment, where individuals are treated with respect and where a sense of community prevails.
We are open, honest and accountable. We share information, ideas and aims in a climate of fairness and openness.
The UEL community
The diverse and cosmopolitan nature of East London is reflected by the vibrant multicultural community at UEL. We bring together people from around 120 countries and many different backgrounds. We are proud of the genuine sense of community at UEL, based on mutual respect and support between students and staff alike.
