The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is one of three undergraduate colleges at Cornell that are also part of the State University of New York (SUNY).
With more than 3,000 students, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) in Ithaca, NY is the second largest undergraduate college at Cornell University and the third largest college of its kind in the United States.
Originally, the College focused on improving farming practice with the formation before 1900 of the departments of entomology, agronomy, horticulture, dairy industry, and animal industry. Over the years, CALS departments and programs have established world-recognized teaching, research, and extension programs in agriculture, community, human, and rural development, environment and natural resources, food and nutrition, international programs, and life sciences.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences prepares students for a world being shaped by the new life sciences, a global marketplace, and emerging technologies. The College’s 23 majors in 26 departments reflect four program priorities – a Land-Grant Mission, the Applied Social Sciences, the Environmental Sciences, and the New Life Sciences.
Tuition for 2005-2006 is $17,367 for New York State residents and $30,476 for nonresidents.
Academic Priority Areas: Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Agriculture and Food.
CALS offers also two preprofessional study programs: Premedical Preparation, Preveterinary Preparation.
