Descrizione dell'università (origine: sito web ufficiale dell'università)

OPSU was created by an act of the Oklahoma State Legislature in 1909 as Pan-Handle Agricultural Institute offering secondary agricultural education for the Panhandle area. In 1921, the legislature authorized the school to offer a twoyear college curriculum, and the name was changed to Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College. In 1925, the State Board of Agriculture authorized upper division college courses, and in the summer of 1926, junior and senior level courses were added to the curriculum. Two additional name changes have been ordered by the legislature: in 1967, Oklahoma Panhandle State College of Agriculture and Applied Science; in 1974, Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
OPSU is a baccalaureate degree granting institution. General governance of the institution is in the hands of the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges. Academic programs and financial support are authorized and coordinated through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
The mission of OPSU is to provide higher education primarily for people of the Oklahoma Panhandle and surrounding areas through academic programs, cultural enrichment, life-long learning experiences, and public service activities. Educational experiences are designed to enrich the personal lives of students and to prepare them for roles in agriculture, business, education, government, and industry.
OPSU is an accredited university by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the Oklahoma System of Higher Education, and is approved by NCATE and the State Board of Education for the preparation of elementary and secondary teachers. General governance of the university is managed by the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges. The academic programs and financial support of OPSU are authorized and coordinated via the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
OPSU is organized into five academic schools: Agriculture; Business and Technology; Education; Liberal Arts; and Science, Mathematics, and Nursing.

Oklahoma Panhandle State University has nearly 100 undergraduate degrees to consider and offers over 340 online courses for both continuing education and meeting traditional degree requirements. The campus is located in the wide open prairie of the Oklahoma Panhandle between the cities of Guymon and Texhoma. With close proximity to the ski slopes of the Rocky Mountains and an international airport in Amarillo, Texas, OPSU abounds in activities and opportunities for brief sojourns from studying.
OPSU offers the lowest tuition cost of Oklahoma colleges, and with a unique book rental program and several opportunities for scholarships, OPSU offers one of the best values in college education. Whether full-time, part-time, online, continuing education, or international, OPSU provides quality education to students from all walks of life.

Comprised of five distinct schools and University College, Oklahoma Panhandle State University accepts a diverse collection of students from all educational backgrounds. The programs of study offered at OPSU lead to nearly 100 different baccalaureate and associate degrees. In addition to the baccalaureate opportunities, OPSU offers several pre-professional studies in selected fields. OPSU strives to enrich its student's lives educationally, personally, and socially. It is the hope that students matriculating at OPSU will receive life-long learning experiences that meet their needs, personally and vocationally.

Scholarships
Students may apply for scholarship consideration if they meet the appropriate requirements for that scholarship. Awards are competitive and are subject to available funding. Although the scholarship application deadline is typically March 1 of each year, students who apply early may receive increased favorable consideration.

The faculty at OPSU is both friendly and knowledgeable in their respective areas of expertise, and with a low student to faculty ratio, OPSU offers opportunities for attention to individual students, epitomizing the motto of “students as customers.” The intellectual atmosphere of OPSU not only offers the knowledge and skills necessary for any future career but also provides a personal learning experience that goes beyond simple education.
