Scholarships or student grants program description

Recipients must be pursuing a degree within the Geography/ Earth Science Department and be either: a) an undergraduate student who has successfully completed at least 30 credits before benefiting from this award, or b) a graduate student. The following factors, which reflect the characteristics and traits that were evident in Dr. Craig W. Oyen, will be considered in the selection process: a) striving for academic excellence, b) demonstration of leadership, c) evidence of an interest in field study and research activities, and d) ideally, possess a strong interest in geology. Recipients will be given preference in the following priority order: a) students who will be taking part in a geology-oriented field studies/ research course or giving a geology-oriented presentation at a professional conference and b) students who will be taking part in a geography-oriented field studies/ research course or giving a geography-oriented presentation at a professional conference. This scholarship is not renewable.

PHEAA - Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, maintains an extensive website of information about these programs. It also contains on-line tools to automate the application process. In particular, PHEAA offers an on-line tool called "AES Education Planner" (This link opens a new window. Close the window to return to this page.) that allows families to plan for college expenses. By filling in the information on Mentor's forms, families can estimate the amount of grant monies they are eligible to receive.

You are encouraged to file this application between January 1 and April 1. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) requires the FAFSA to be received by the Federal Processor no later than May 1 for Pennsylvania State Grant consideration for PA residents.Completing your federal income tax return prior to completing this application is highlyencouraged as the FAFSA refers to specific lines on the tax return.
