| Scholarships or student grants program description |
The Whitinger Scholarship is the signature scholarship of the Honors College and is the most prestigious scholarship awarded by Ball State University. Established in 1976, the scholarship is supported by academic programs, social activities, and special opportunities as well as the funds for the scholarship itself.
The Whitinger Scholars Program honors 10 unusually talented students each year. The award covers full tuition/fees and room and board and is renewable for a total of eight semesters, subject to annual review. Whitinger Scholars are also eligible to apply for an additional $1,000 enrichment grant during their four years at Ball State to help defray the cost of an experiential or immersive learning opportunity while at Ball State.
Scholarship recipients are selected by committee based on their academic ability, character, creativity, and potential for leadership. Whitinger Scholars may pursue any Ball State major. Eligibility for consideration includes:
First-time Honors College freshman, fall semester
At least a 3.70 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale in academic college preparatory courses (academic GPA as calculated by Ball State’s Office of Admissions)
Minimum SAT composite score of 1950, including a minimum of 600 on each of the three sub-scores: critical reading, math, and writing; or a minimum ACT composite of 29, including a minimum of 26 on the ACT math, English, and writing subscores
