School of Applied Mathematics- Studentship in Applied Astrophysical and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics

Minimum Academic
Requirements: Candidates should have a UK First Class honours degree in Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline, or equivalent.
This is a fully funded studentship for students satisfying Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) residency rules; fees only for other EU students.
If English is not your first language, then candidates must also meet the University's English language requirements.
Additional Information:
One studentship is available to work on different aspects of Astrophysical and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (AGFD) in the Department of Applied Mathematics. The AGFD group is actively engaged in research in a wide-range of areas: from planetary dynamics (the geodynamo and planetary dynamos) through solar, stellar and galactic dynamics to highly compressible and relativistic dynamics on the largest scales.
The group has a large number of research students and post-doctoral research associates and is actively seeking a student who is interested in pursuing research to gain a PhD in mathematics.
Current research areas include Relativistic astrophysics, Cosmic gas dynamics, Solar and planetary dynamo theory, Neutron stars, Magnetohydrodynamics, Accretion discs, Sunspots and Solar and planetary convection. Further details can be found on:
